Lake Lurleen State Park
Capital Improvement Projects
The projects listed below were made possible by the Alabama Legislature restoring funds to the State Park Budget. Other projects are in the planning stages and will be posted and updated as they become available. This Webpage is intended to inform the public of the progress of these projects both ongoing and completed. It is our intent to keep the public informed of how the renovations at their state parks are progressing.
Playground Equipment – Completed
- Started February 2014
- Completed June 2014
Purchase of new playground equipment was made possible through a partnership between Lake Lurleen State Park, Nucor Steel and McAbee Construction Co. Nucor Steel and McAbee Construction made a donation that was matched by various small donations to Lake Lurleen State Park through our Car Shows and special projects. The State Parks Division matched these funds to purchase a new set of playground equipment for the little kids. This playground equipment is being installed in an area adjoining the beach. The equipment is installed, but wet weather has delayed the final ground work and fence installation.
Campground Bathhouses – Installation of AC/Heat Pump Units - Bathhouses 1, 2 and 3 Completed
- Started March 2014
- Completed March 2014
Campground bathhouses were not air conditioned for those hot and humid summer days. We have installed AC units in each of the three bathhouses. Mini-split heat pumps/AC units were selected for energy efficiency and to provide the guests with a more comfortable bathhouse experience. Also with installing these new units new insulation will be added, a new ceiling in Bathhouse One and new roofs will be installed on all three bathhouses; making these bathhouses comfortable and more energy efficient.
