June 7, 2018

Hammocking 101
Time: 11:00 AM

Learn the basics of hammocking and simple observation techniques such as pondering.  Spending time in nature reduces stress and increases overall health. Hammocks will be loaned to participants for the program. Email Mandy.Pearson@dcnr.alabama.gov to register. Program is free with gate admission and to overnight guests. Discovery Hike
​Time: 3:00 PM

Join Cheaha’s Naturalist, Mandy Pearson, on a hike across the highest mountain in Alabama. Learn about the Cheaha ecosystem, plants, animals, and history. Program is free with gate admission and to overnight guests. Location: Bald Rock Trail Head.

Cheaha Explorer’s Club

Do you have a child who is curious about the great outdoors? The Cheaha Explorer’s Club might be a great program for your little explorer. This club is designed to teach children about nature while safely exploring the park. All supplies are included in this workshop. Space is limited, so registration is required. Leave No Trace Hike to the Top of Alabama
​Tme: 11:00 AM

Learn the Leave No Trace basics as you hike to the top of Alabama. This one-mile hike will begin at the Vista Cliffside overlook and end at the Bunker Observation Tower, Alabama's highest point. The park naturalist will interpret the trail and discuss plants, animals, native Americans, the Civilian Conservation Corp, ecosystems, Leave No Trace, and much more. Program is free with gate admission and to overnight guests.Location: Bigfoot Trail Head (By the Motel)

Tree Identification Hike

Trees are used as homes, food, shelter, lumber, paper products, air purifiers, and so much more. They are essential to humans, animals, and the ecosystem. Learn about trees of Northeast Alabama during a fun interpretive hike. Program is free with gate admission and to overnight guests.Location: Laurel Trail Chalet Road Trail Head

Reptile Talk
​Time: 3:00 PM

Reptiles are found in diverse shapes, colors and sizes across the planet. These scaly creatures can crawl, swim, run, climb, and fly. Participants will learn many interesting facts and meet live reptiles.  Program is free with gate admission and to overnight guests. Location: Bald Rock Trail Head

Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Campfire Talk
​8:00 PM

For more than 80 years Cheaha State Park has been dedicated to conservation, recreation, and service which began with the Civilian Conservation Corps. The CCC was a group of young men who built state and national parks, planted millions of trees, fought countless forest fires, reshaped conservation, and offered hope to a tired and discouraged nation. Program is free with gate admission and to overnight guests. Location: Campfire Ring (by the Observation Tower)

Let’s Go Camping
​6:30 PM - 8:00 AM

There is much beauty and joy in the great outdoors! Would you and your family like to learn how to camp in a fun, safe, and educational environment?  We provide the supplies while you enjoy camping including hotdogs over the campfire and a Dutch oven dessert for supper. Please bring your own drinks. Space is limited, so registration is required. Tickets are $50.00 per pair (child and adult). Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Animals are stealthy, and they often move through the forest unobserved. Although you might not see them, many creatures leave clues such as scat and tracks. Night Hike on Bald Rock Boardwalk Trail
​Time: 7:00 PM

Many animals are nocturnal which means they are only active at night.  These animals live a fascinating life. Enjoy learning about these creatures and possibly observing some of these animals on an accessible night hike. Meet at Bald Rock Trail Head.
