Gulf State Park  Activities Schedule

All activities are free to guests staying in the park and a $2 charge per vehicle to enter the campground for non-guests unless otherwise indicated.

Saturday 10/14

10:00 AM – Video: Cuttlefish: Kings of Camouflage: (56 Min.) When it comes to camouflage the cuttlefish is the real master of disguise. Meet at the GSP Education Building for this program.

7:00 PM – Saturday Night Movie: Meet at the Campground Pavilion to watch the movie WAR ROOM. This free movie is sponsored by Gulf Area Resort Ministries. For more information, go to 

Sunday 10/15

10:00AM - Camper Devotion:  Meet at the Camp Store Pavilion.  (non-denominational & casual)

The Nature Center is Closed on Sundays.

Monday 10/16

10:00 AM -Guided Beach Walk: Meet our Park guide at the Gulf State Park Beach Pavilion near the fireplace and learn all about coastal ecosystem and learn about some of the local sea life.  It costs $6.00 per vehicle to park at the Beach Pavilion for the day, but is free to all guest staying in the Park with your windshield pass.

2:00 PM - Snake Encounters: Visit the Nature Center to learn all about our native snakes. You will learn how to identify the local venomous species and why these creatures are an important part of our environment. Bring a camera and get your picture touching a snake.

Tuesday 10/17

8:00AM - Pier Fishing 101 (First Session): -Beginner’s course on pier fishing. Learn safety, regulations, how to set up gear, pick bait, and fish from the Gulf State Park Pier. Free program but if you intend to fish please obtain saltwater fishing license in advance.  Purchase online “ saltwater-recreational-licenses”. Program cancelled in event of lightening.

2:00 PM— Prescribed Burns: One tool that foresters use to maintain healthy habitats is controlled burning of overgrown areas. As one of the most important natural agents of change, fire plays a vital role in maintaining certain ecosystems. Meet our Naturalist in the Education Building to learn the details of why and how prescribed burning is utilized in Gulf State Park.

Wednesday 10/18

10:00 AM - Guided Nature Walk: Meet our park guide at the entrance (in the parking lot) of Gulf Oak Ridge and explore one of the trails in Gulf State Park.  Bring binoculars if you have them. We have some to share.

11:00 AM — Eco Art: Join us in the Education Building to participate in an art project/craft that highlights a natural aspect of the Park. (New crafts each week.)

2:00 PM –Owl Encounter - Visit the Education Building to learn all about some amazing facts about owls. We will have our resident owls out for pictures!

Thursday 10/19

Visit the Nature Center to see the menagerie of animals that inhabit Gulf State Park. 

9:00 AM – Guided Kayaking Tour: Join us at Lake Shelby for a one hour guided kayaking tour to explore the basics of kayaking and a short trip around the lake. $20 includes single kayak, lifejacket. Limited spaces available so please call for reservation. 251-948-7275 dial 9 then ext. 2128.

Friday 10/20

10:00 AM – Exploring Coastal Creatures: Meet at the foot of the pier to learn about and get up close with creatures found in Gulf of Mexico.

2:00 PM - Bog Habitats in Gulf State Park: Meet our Park Naturalist at the Orange Beach Sportsplex Trail Head and discover some amazing things about the plants and animals that survive in bogs and marshes.
